A proud employer of Union Ironworkers, Coastal Steel Construction is a signatory contractor with the Northern New Jersey District Council of Ironworkers, the Ironworkers District Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity, and the Regional Local #846 of the International Association of Bridge Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers.

Leadership
Marcie Shavel
President & Owner
Mrs. Shavel is the President and Co-owner of Coastal Steel Construction where she is responsible for the overall management and operations of all facets of the firm from business development to budgeting and planning. Well-versed in managing complex, high-profile construction projects, Mrs. Shavel’s innovative construction and engineering methodologies have earned her high praise in the professional community. Prior to Coastal Steel Construction, she spent over 13 years at Slattery Skanska, where she was exposed to every facet of construction management. In her time at Slattery Skanska, Mrs. Shavel served as a Senior Estimator, Project Director, Project Manager and Project Engineer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Building Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has completed coursework towards a Master’s Degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida.
Gerald Mahaffey
Vice President of Operations and Owner
Mr. Mahaffey is the Vice President of Operations and Co-owner of Coastal Steel Construction. He brings over 30 years experience to his role of managing all field labor. Throughout his career, Mr. Mahaffey has managed a variety of project types for many public agencies, private owners and general contractors throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. A consummate professional, he has established a solid reputation and working relationship with business agents, tradesmen, contractors and owners. A few key projects that Mr. Mahaffey has worked on include the Walt Whitman Bridge in Philadelphia, PA; the Camden Waste Water Treatment Plant in Camden, NJ and the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Mahaffey is a member of the International Union of Ironworkers and serves on the National Executive Committee of the National Association of Reinforcing Steel Contractors (NARSC).
